“Digital photography is a science, film photography is a chemical miracle.”
– Steven Spielberg

This collection of photos represents my journey through 2024 as I dedicated my practice to shooting exclusively on 35mm and 120 medium format film.

Every photograph in this series was captured, developed, and processed by my own hands, shaped through an immense amount of trial and error. These photos are far from perfect. There are light leaks, grain, dust, scratches. Film is a medium that invites slowness. It’s a fuzzy capturing of a moment, as if a memory or a dream we can’t quite hold on to or experience in crystal clear rendering.

Film is beautifully flawed, a medium that requires patience, vulnerability, and acceptance. It reminds us that imperfection is not a failure but a reflection of our humanity.

Acknowledgements

I couldn’t have completed this work without the support of my love and companion Jenny, who assisted me on many photo shoots, helped with photo development and made countless contributions to my film photography journey, including being by my side as we both learned this magical craft and lending me their Pentax 6X7, which gave me a whole new world to play with.

Thank you to Chachi Justin Soto, who initiated many a film-centric photo walk, trip or adventure and introduced me to Lauren Winges, who gave us our first film development lesson.

To all my wonderful friends who modeled for me, allowed me to make photographs of them or who reached out to me for a session, I cherish you. To all the photographers who encouraged me and kept my fire stoked all year long, I am humbled and honored.

And to my sweet Pueblo, who inspires me daily.
